PURCHASING MANAGER/ ENGINEER - Ref: HJS/PM1

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
A team of 5 buyers
£12m spend
Based: South Warwickshire


This Management position holds full responsibility for the development and management of the department and supply base, to provide world class procurement and order book management, in support of the company's business requirements and the needs of the company's customers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of customers to the business.

  • Ability to progress orders for a number of customers at the same time


EDUCATION:

  • A Level education /and or relevant experience
  • Degree level
  • CIPS fully qualified
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Engineering qualification e.g. apprenticeship
  • English language fluent
  • Driving Licence

EXPERIENCE:

  • Able to manage a team of buyers
  • Able to demonstrate progress through vendor management.
  • Experience of running a purchasing function within a supply chain
  • Able to demonstrate progress through vendor management
  • Extensive experience of using an MRP system
  • Experience of giving advice/instructions to the members of a team on a range of purchasing issues.
  • Relevant experience at Senior Buyer Level within a manufacturing environment
  • Supplier management, cost setting and cost reduction
  • Autonomous, self motivated with the ability to work under pressure
  • Clear understanding of health and safety responsibilities as a line manager
  • Experience of running a Purchasing function within a supply chain.
  • Experience of giving advice / instructions to the members of a team on a range of purchasing issues
  • Able to make judgements about the materials flow and able to solve problems in a structured approach
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of Export requirements
  • Strong financial business acumen with clearly demonstrable achievements that have significantly added to increasing profitability

KEY TASKS

  • To manage the purchasing function to meet all business demands in accordance with Company/departmental procedures and health & safety requirements.
  • To continually assess the departmental structure and staff resources identifying and implementing development initiatives or change management to meet the Company’s 146;s objectives.
  • To understand and be fully compliant with all relevant import controls and legislation.
  • To be the focal point and actively manage our key suppliers
  • To ensure that Vendor Performance is in line with departmental objectives.
  • To conduct Supplier performance and development reviews with Buyers & all key suppliers.
  • To establish long-term contracts with suppliers for mutual benefit
  • To Negotiate favourable terms of supply & to and take action to reduce the costs on all products where appropriate.
  • To draw up Contracts with suppliers
  • To participate in supplier meetings, providing agendas/minutes and agreements as appropriate
  • Manage key supplier relationships in a professional and effective manner
  • To provide operational reporting and develop, maintain and publish activity related KPI’s
  • To establish purchasing plans to meet short/medium term requirements; to ensure optimum commercial objectives are achieved.
  • To ensure that stock value meets business budgets taking appropriate action where relevant and reporting as required.
  • To provide Senior Management support for the escalation and resolution of critical part shortages/supplier issues. To keep Purchasing Director appraised of issues.
  • The Identification of options to resolve slow moving stock issues
  • To Manage the Expediting of purchase orders in an efficient and timely manner.
  • To monitor and manage supplier performance in conjunction with relevant personnel to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and pursue/resolve claims and disputes.
  • To ensure MRP purchasing action data is effectively managed and utilised including problem identification and resolution.
  • To involve yourself in quality issues when required and acted upon to obtain a suitable conclusion.
  • To review and measure department’s performance and make continuous improvements
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with key internal customers in order to gain an understanding of their needs to improve the service provided
  • To ensure that purchasing intake value meets business budgets, taking appropriate action where relevant and reporting as required.
  • To facilitate relevant projects which assist with fulfilling Supply Chain objectives
  • To liaise with other departments to identify customer needs to seek out opportunities to maximise organisation total profitability
  • To follow company ISO 9001 and 14001 and 5S processes
